Barely surviving this crazy summer heat! How about you?! Thankfully, the drink I have for you today makes it more tolerable! 🙂 And that is due in part to the lovely people at the SpinDrift company who sent me a sample of their newest flavor of fruit-infused seltzer water: Blackberry!
If you’re not familiar with the SpinDrift company, they are a brand in the sparkling water biz that stands out because they use real fruit in their waters without adding extra sweeteners. With flavors like Cucumber, Grapefruit, Raspberry Lime (featured in my Sparkling Watermelon Mint Agua Frescas), and now Blackberry, SpinDrift is a refreshing sparkling water alternative!
Today, I’m not only reviewing Blackberry SpinDrift, but I’m also showing you how to use it in a delicious Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz drink that will keep you cool and happy during the dog days of summer!So, let me start things off by telling you a little more about SpinDrift Blackberry seltzer before I get into the recipe!
When a SpinDrift rep contacted me about doing a review, I was ecstatic! Not only am I a huge fan of sparkling water, but I had actually just seen their newest blackberry flavor in a local Target and was eager to try it! Getting my 4-pack in the mail also couldn’t have come at a better time, since the heat in Pittsburgh is outrageous right now!
After a quick chill in the fridge, I popped open a can to sip and savor. What I love about SpinDrift is that they use real fruit (not artificial flavorings or sweeteners) in their waters. So, this Blackberry water has a naturally beautiful color and fruity flavor thanks to the fresh-squeezed blackberries and touch of lemon. Really delicious!
Hands down, this is my new favorite flavor.
Because of the berry tint, some might expect this to taste like blackberry soda or juice, but be aware that it’s not supposed to be sweet. That’s actually what I like about it – it’s a thirst-quencher that won’t give you a sugar rush, with just a slight hint of sweetness from the berries.

After my fun and flavorful SpinDrift Blackberry experience, I was inspired to create today’s Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz! Juicy, fresh blackberries, tart lemon juice, and raw honey are blended together with a hint of basil and poured over sparkling Blackberry SpinDrift for a fizzy, refreshing summer drink!
If you’ve made my Sparkling Watermelon Mint Agua Frescas, then you’ll be a pro at making my Blackberry Lemon Basil Fizz, since it’s the same method with different ingredients! If you haven’t made them, no worries, because the recipe is easy as pie. Blackberry pie. 😉
To make this recipe, you need a blender and a whopping 5 ingredients:
- SpinDrift Blackberry
- Fresh blackberries
- Fresh lemons
- Fresh basil
- Raw honey
Now, you may be eyeing this list and thinking, “Joanna, one of those ingredients is NOT like the others. What is the basil doing here?!” I know, but I encourage you to try it! It adds a slight savory note to the drink and really compliments the blackberry SO well! I don’t usually go for herbs in sweet things, but it’s really yummy here.
Making these drinks is a breeze! First, pour yourself and a friend some SpinDrift Blackberry, then blend up the berries, basil, lemon juice, and honey. Strain the mixture through a strainer or sieve, with the help of a spoon to push the puree through. Pour the blackberry puree evenly between each glass of SpinDrift and serve with or without ice. DONE.
What I loved most about making this beverage was the way it fizzed up (hence the name) when I poured the fruit puree over the sparkling water! And just look at that gorgeous color. It reminds me of sangria! (Adding wine = not a bad idea!)

- 1 (12-ounce) can SpinDrift Blackberry seltzer water
- 1 cup fresh blackberries
- 4 lemons, juiced
- 1 heaping tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
- 1-2 tablespoons raw honey (adjust to desired sweetness)
- Ice cubes to serve (optional)
- Split can of SpinDrift Blackberry between two glasses.
- In a blender, puree blackberries, lemon juice, basil, and honey until well mixed.
- Strain puree through a fine mesh strainer to remove pulp and seeds.
- Divide puree between the two glasses of sparkling water.
- Stir and add ice, if using. Enjoy!
